The BoCC considers removal of Victoria Turner on March 21st

March 18th, 2023
Written by A4LL volunteers

The County Commissioners are considering a removal Victoria Turner from the Planning Commission (PC) for alleged misconduct and nonperformance. It is believed that this is due to her actions in the last PC meeting on March 8th. The two parts of the recording of this meeting can be viewed here and here. During that meeting, Victoria voiced concerns to the commission for two clear violations of the PC bylaws. First, she noted that the chairman, Tom Kay, was serving for a third term, despite the limit being two consecutive terms. Second, she observed that a few members were serving on the commission despite not living in the unincorporated Delta County. Turner simply requested that the commission address these issues prior to making a decision on a proposed project, This can be heard at the 18:16 minute mark of the recording of this meeting.

The cited Colorado Revised Statute 30-28-103 which gives the minimum regulations of the Planning Commissions is here. We should note that there are other PCs like Arapahoe County in Colorado that restrict their membership to unincorporated county residents so this appears to be not against the law.

This consideration for removal is listed as item 11 of the Board of County Commissioners
Agenda packet for the March 21st regular BoCC meeting.

The meeting on the
21st is open to the public and you may voice your concerns about this issue at the constituent time which starts at 8:30 am and email the County Commissioners at the following addresses: mlane@deltacountyco.gov, dsuppes@deltacountyco.gov, and wkoontz@deltacountyco.gov and the county clerk tstephenson@deltacountyco.gov.
